Sports Redux: The Exorcist

1.jpgThe informal exorcism worked last night. After Yankee officials removed his jersey from Yankee Stadium's foundation, David Ortiz went 2-for-4, nearly doubling his meager collection of hits this season, when the Red Sox beat the Indians 6-4. Yes, it was Papi’s triumphant return last night after taking a whopping one game off. From the sounds of Orsillo’s gushing, you would have thought Ortiz had been on the bench since last year. Like the night before, Jon Lester combusted in the 4th inning. Performances like this lead many people to wonder why we kept him. And when is he going to be sent to the bullpen?

Manny Ramirez started the rally by hitting his 493rd homerun off of Joe Borowski. The real hero last night was Cleveland’s adopted son, Julian Tavarez, who got the Sox out of a bases loaded one out jam by striking out the next two batters. Timlin, whose rocking an ERA that’s close to the price of one his t-shirts sold at the Yawkey Way Store, got the win after pitching a scoreless inning of work, and Papelbon recorded his 5th save of the season.

It’s been a while since Curt Schilling has talked to the media. So Dr. Craig Morgan made up for lost time. Dr. Morgan was on a Philadelphia radio station yesterday and said that we could see Schill in pinstripes next year. Good Luck! Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

The Celtics beat the Knicks 99 – 93 last night, Jesus Shuttlesworth, KG and P Squared took the night off in preparation for the upcoming first round of the playoffs. It’s looking like the first game will be on Sunday versus The Hawks. Rondo scored 23 points last night; look for him to ride the pine with the Big Three tomorrow night. Sexy Sam Cassell scored 22 points while helping the Celtic’s bench players beat the broken Knicks.

TONIGHT: Tim Wakefield will be pitching against Paul Byrd when the Sox play game two tonight in Cleveland. The Bruins are still in town for game four of the playoffs against The Canadiens. Look for the BC Eagles to be honored at the game tonight. For those of you worrying about possibly missing Jed Lowrie’s first major league appearance or Milan Lucic beating the crap out of another Canadien, NESN has the list of where you can find tonight’s games.
