It looks like New York may have finally found something to do besides complain about buried Red Sox jerseys. In honor of National Poetry Month, the city is sponsoring Poem In Your Pocket Day (aka PIYP Day), which involves--wait for it--putting a poem in your pocket, and sharing it with people throughout your day. It's actually not a bad idea, though we're skeptical about a few choices--"The Owl and the Pussycat"? Are you really sharing a poem if everyone already had to spend part of an eighth grade English class snickering over its use of the word "pussy"?
Anyway, try the Poetry Foundation's poetry tool (heh) to locate some poems you wouldn't mind carrying in your pockets--not just today, but anytime. If we do end up participating in PIYP Day, we'll brace ourselves for lots of "Is that a poem in your pocket, or are you just happy it's National Poetry Month?" Both, clearly.
