Newbury Comics Brings Us Record Store Day

rsd.jpgRecord Store Day
Various Newbury Comics Locations: Newbury Street (332 Newbury Street), Harvard Square (36 JFK Street), Government Center (1 Washington Mall), etc.
Saturday, April 19

Record Store Day is a nationwide event instituted in honor of the independent record store. In an era when you can get all your music news and reviews from Pitchfork or Stereogum (or Bostonist!) and all your downloads from the torrent site of your choice, what's the use of a physical record store anymore, anyway? Turn off your computer for a couple of hours tomorrow to reconnect with the enriching, engaging community that can emerge from talking face-to-face with real people about music.

Newbury Comics is turning up the volume at all of its locations. In addition to some sweet discounts (35% off all used CDs and DVDs; 25% off all vinyl), there are a number of amazing in-store performances. Mates of State, Hooray for Earth, and Clouds play Newbury Street; The Dresden Dolls, Dennis Brennan, and Peter Wolf take over the Harvard Square location; and Salem City Lights, Mark Lind, and Ad Frank will be at Government Center. There are also amazing events scheduled at other Massachusetts locations and even in Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

Make like the High Fidelity boys and hang out at your local record shop all day tomorrow. It'll be a nice change from your normal routine (unless that is your normal routine), and you might even get some Top 5 lists out of it.
