Sports Redux: How to shut up 20,000 people in 5 easy steps!
Some people do their best work under pressure. Maybe that was the key to the Bruins 5-1 win over the Habs last night in Montreal. Phil Kessel, who has spent the majority of the playoffs on the bench, was the spark that got the B’s going in the second period, scoring the first goal for the team. It was the 3rd period when the Bruins decided to show the Canadiens that they weren’t going down without a fight with goals from Glen Metropolit, Zdeno Chara, Marc Savard and Vladimir Sobotka. With this win, the Bruins bring the series back to Boston Saturday night for game 6.
The Red Sox finished up the 2 games in the Bronx with a win. Josh Beckett threw for 8 innings last night for a 7 – 5 win over the Yankees. Beckett was also the first Sox pitcher to stay in for at least seven innings this season, giving the bullpen some well deserved rest. Manny Ramirez hit home runs 494 and 495 last night off of Mike Mussina and was later plunked by "Classy" Kyle Farnsworth. The next time the Sox see the Bombers will be during a Fourth of July weekend series in Boston. We’ll save you from the obvious lame fireworks joke, but needless to say it should be interesting.
The entire team all seemed to have gotten a hit last night, except for the slumping Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury who deiced to get hit by a pitch instead. Hey, do whatever you must to get on base. The Texas Rangers are in town for the four game series and look for former Sox pitcher, Kason Gabbard to pitch the final game against Buchholz on Marathon Monday.
The playoff schedule for the Celtics was announced, and they’ll be opening at home against the Atlanta Hawks Sunday night. You can find the complete schedule here. Congrats to Doc Rivers who got Coach of the Month. He shares the honors with Phil Jackson in LA.
