Dropkick Murphys Open a Sports Bar, Sharks Jumped

042108-dropkick-murphys.jpgMuch as the Dropkick Murphys are part of the Boston fabric, much like the marathon and the Red Sox, they might have stretched themselves a tad too far with their latest adventure. Red Sox Monster noted that they opened a sports bar today--McGreevy's 3rd Base Saloon at 911 Boylston.

Fine and dandy. The Dropkick Murphys love the Sox, but the language of the release is remarkably Planet Hollywood: "The result is an unmatched Irish Pub and sports bar experience where any member of Red Sox Nation can take a step back in time to see where it all began and rub elbows with current Sox stars like Papelbon himself."

Unmatched? Anyone in an Irish pub right now might have something to say about that. All we can think of is the Super Troopers scene in which the highway patrol talk about Shenanigans, that restaurant with "all that s*&t on the walls." Local wit Pax Arcana is similarly underwhelmed and warns the women of the world: "So ladies, if you like tight shirts, red chin strap beards, and yelling, get your friends together and hit the town! (Surgeon General’s warning: You might get hit back. This town is like that.)"

So, prove this Bostonist wrong. Did you go to the sports bar? Your thoughts? Authenticity or Planet Hollywood meets Jonathan Papelbon?
