The Gloucester woman who struck the car that Sandra Bullock and Jesse James were riding in over the weekend is still feeling her 15 minutes of infamy. 64-year-old Lucile P. Gatchell pled not guilty to driving under the influence today in Gloucester District Court. She will return to court June 6.
The police report said Gatchell's "blood alcohol level registered .20, which is more than twice the legal limit." The report added that she also failed four field sobriety tests. Despite Gatchell's alleged drunken condition, Richard Gaines of the Gloucester Daily Times tells everyone to settle down because neither car was going over 20 miles an hour when the affair took place.
Gatchell and all parties involved were lucky. The thought of a 64-year-old drunk driver is sad indeed, but it would barely register as a blip if the person she hit weren't famous. It's kind of sad. Not only was Gatchell surprised that she hit Sandra Bullock, but so were the celeb outlets. Gaines got a laugh out of it since Entertianment Tonight tried to make hay of the story with a photo of the police report.
