Boston Blotter: Elderly Hyde Park Woman Assaulted; Murder in Abington
-- An 88-year-old woman was assaulted in her Hyde Park home early this morning, Boston police say. Around 4 a.m., an intruder allegedly attacked the victim and fled. No signs of forced entry were reported and nothing was reported stolen. The victim may have been sexually assaulted, and police from the sexual assault unit are also investigating. A suspect, described by police as a 5'7" black male with a slight build, remains at large. [BPDNews; Globe]
-- An Abington man was arrested yesterday for the murder of his wife. John Tassinari, 29, shot and killed his wife, whom he claimed had cheated on him, called 911, and waited outside his house for police to arrest him, according to authorities. Outside, Tassinari encountered Frank Scolano, his neighbor and his wife's brother. Scolano had heard gunfire coming from the Tassinari residence and had run over to protect his sister with his gun. When police arrived on the scene, Scolano had subdued Tassinari and was threatening to kill him with his silver .32 caliber pistol, police say. Tassinari allegedly killed his wife using two .45 caliber pistols, firing over a dozen rounds. The couple had two children. [Globe; Herald]
-- The Cantab Lounge in Cambridge's Central Square was the site of a violent brawl that left one man dazed, confused, and in police custody early Saturday morning. The 33-year-old Beverly man allegedly smashed a bottle across a woman's face. He later told police that he could not remember wielding a bottle or any of the other details of the alleged ruckus.
