Wednesday Happenings
Movies
-- Independent Film Festival Boston begins tonight with homeboy Brad Anderson's newest Transsiberian, a train-bound thriller in the Hitchcock tradition. With Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, and Woody Harrelson. Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, Somerville, 7:30pm. No advance tickets. IFF Boston's full schedule.
Books
-- Broadcaster Cokie Roberts is in town to discuss what could be a companion piece to John Adams and DeeDee Myers's Why Women Should Rule the World, Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation. Brookline Booksmith, 279 Harvard St., Brookline, 6:00 pm. Free. (CR)
-- No one beats Boston when it comes to geeks. So it's only natural that Improv Boston will celebrate Geek Week, mocking everything that makes us adorably dorky. Expect to see a bunch of LED lights, LARPing, and "live long and prosper" hand signals. ImprovBoston, 40 Prospect St., Central Square, Cambridge. Through 04/27. Various times and ticket prices. (CR)
Storytelling
-- Tracy Slater brings another round of Four Stories to town. The theme for this gathering is "Women on the Road: Stories From Best Women's Travel Writing 2008." Readers include Jennifer Cook, Susan Freireich, Kathleen Spivak, and Kate Wheeler. The Enormous Room, 569 Mass. Ave., Central Square, Cambridge, 7:00 pm (get there early). Free. (CR)
Music
-- Having finally reached that magical age (52), the B-52's reunite to make you feel like it's the 80's again. Knock a little louder, sugar... and work on that beehive. Paradise Rock Club, 969 Commonwealth Ave, 7:00pm. $56 (Why not $52, dammit?). (KS)
