Thursday Happenings
Music
-- The International Noise Conference is an odd sort of touring showcase. Each stop features music from the local noise music underground and includes a performance by the mysterious Laundry Room Squelchers. There are four rules: 15 minutes or less per act; no lap tops; no mixers; no droning. What does that leave? Austinist offered an answer. The Boston installment was curated by Jessica Rylan. Wong Auditorium, MIT, 70 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, 7:00pm. Free.
-- Megadeth is 25 years old. Celebrate by watching them play at the Palladium, then rust in peace with some youthinasia. We hope these cryptic writings aren't evidence that the system has failed. With In Flames, Children Of Bodom, Job For A Cowboy. Palladium, 261 Main Street, Worcester. (KS)
-- The kids love Tokyo Police Club, a post-punk revival band that is not from Tokyo and does not comprise any police. Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave., 8:00pm. $12.
Movies
All Black Musical Theater
-- Harvard's BlackCAST presents a 21st century reinterpretation of The Wiz, the Tony Award winning musical based on The Wizard of Oz. (Some readers might remember the 1978 film adaptation with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.) For those who prefer their Yellow Brick Road to sing. Agassiz Theatre, 10 Garden St., Radcliffe Yard, Cambridge, 7:30pm. $12/$8.
Books
-- Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States has been correcting high school history teachers since 1980. A section from the book was recently revamped in comics form by Zinn, historian Paul Buhle, and cartoonist Mike Konopacki. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle Street, Cambridge, 6:00pm. (Presented by Harvard Book Store.) Sold Out.
