Pats Slather on the Mayo
Apparently the Patriots' bread has been dry lately; they've picked up Jerod Mayo to grease things up a bit. The Globe thinks the Tennessee linebacker will learn a thing or two from veteran LB Tedy Bruschi. The Pats got Mayo with the 10th pick overall in the NFL draft, which they obtained by trading their #7 spot and #164 pick in the fifth round with the New Orleans Saints for the #10 spot and a third-round draft pick (#78). Not a bad deal for the Pats, we think. The Saints took defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis of USC with the #7 pick they gained in the trade.
The first two teams to pick both went long (har har). Miami chose Jake Long with the #1 pick, and St. Louis chose Chris Long at #2. Then it was Matt Ryan of Boston College to Atlanta (#3), Darren McFadden to Oakland (#4), Glenn Dorsey to Kansas City, Vernon Gholston to the Jets, Ellis to NO, Derrik Harvey to Jacksonville, Keith Rivers to Cincinnati, and Mayo to the Pats. The Chiefs are currently on the clock with the 15th pick.
