Sports Redux: Sox Slide

The Red Sox continued their slide last night, losing to the Tampa Bay ‘Please Don’t Call Us The Devil Rays’ Rays 5- 4 in the 11th . But the most painful part of last night’s game wasn’t the 11th inning single that Mike Timlin gave up, but was the injury backup first basemen, Sean Casey. Casey tweaked his right hip flexor coming running home after Jacoby Ellsbury hit a single in the second inning when the team recorded 3 runs.
Mike Lowell, who’s still on the DL, was in Pawtucket DH’ing and helping the PawSox win 6 – 1. Until Lowell is done with time on the DL, look for Jed Lowrie to fill in.
The Sox were given a few opportunities to win this game, like when Ray’s second basemen Akinori Iwamura wasn’t able to get lead runner, Kevin Cash or Dustin Pedroia out. But for the majority of the time, the Rays weren’t going down without a fight. B.J. Upton make a diving catch in the forth to take a run away from Ellsbury and Carl Crawford robbed Pedroia in the sixth of a hit. But in the end, the Sox bullpen was it's own worst enemy. Mike Timlin gave up a single in the 11th to Nathan Haynes that drove in Carl Crawford.
People were saying the Sox were going to start slow and have a little trouble because of the trip to Japan and prior to these last 6 games, it hasn’t been the case. Maybe it’s all catching up to them now.
TONIGHT: The Sox try to end their losing streak, which is close to being as long as their last win streak, sending Clay Buchholz to the mound to. We can only pray he doesn’t hurt his neck with all of the crap around it. The Celtics play game 3 in Atlanta. Paul Pierce is doing better and will play after injuring his back.
