Boston Fashion: Looking Good For A Good Cause & At Low Prices

white%20shirts.JPG

Guinness family heiress, Daphne Guinness, cleaned out her closet this week. For a good cause.

After deciding she needs to make room for 20 more years of must-have trends, Guinness placed everything from Prada shoes to Alexander McQueen bags on an online auction site to raise money for the Womankind Worldwide fund. Our heart skipped a beat when we saw the Roland Mouret ‘Goldsmith’ dressand we wished we had the money (and the body) for it.

Initially the fund thought her items would bring in around $60,000, but, in fact, Guinness raised over $275,000 for the charity. When asked about the experience Guinness told reporters, “The auction was a cathartic experience – shedding clothes I no longer wore and benefiting the Womankind charity at the same time. In a world where consumerism is often prominent, it was good to try to give something back and to see my old wardrobe recycled. The clothes will go to people who will continue to enjoy them, and I am really delighted that I have been able to do something practical to help women in different parts of the world."

Eco-friendly fashion designer Rogan Gregory will be the latest designer to join the ranks of Target. Gregory is best known for his Loomstate collection that was made with organic cotton and EDUN, which he designed with Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson. The money raised by the sales of EDUN went to promote economic growth in developing countries. Gregory’s upcoming line for Target will be made entirely out of organic materials. So, not only will you look good, but you’ll feel good knowing you did your part. You can look here for a sneak peak of the collection, which will be released on May 18th.

Philip Lim has hopped the designer-trends-for-less bandwagon. Lim has joined up with The GAP for their latest designer white shirt series for women and men. Lim is joined by Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian and Threeasfour for this season’s collection. Bostonist fashionistas are loving Threeasfour’s white shirt turned dress
and Band of Outsider’s patchwork shirt.

When Bostonist informed our friends that Steve & Barry’s is opening a store just 20 minutes outside of Boston, they jumped for joy. The popular chain store that brags about having great clothes at low prices will be opening a store in Danvers in the next few months. Created in 1985, Steve & Barry’s carry Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker, and everything in their store is under $20. We’ll let you know when the grand opening is and try to give you a sneak peak of the store before it opens.
