When Manholes Attack: Manhole Fire in Cambridge
Overnight, a fire broke out underground, prompting flames to shoot up from pissed-off manholes around Mass Ave and Dunster. At one point, the flames were 15 feet high.
An NSTAR spokeswoman is calling it a "cable malfunction," but work crews weren't at the area when it started.
The area has been closed off to traffic, and 700 customers are without power. The ABP, the Holyoke Center, and Cambridge Savings are closed. MBTA service is still running, but the main entrance to the Harvard Street MBTA station was closed as of 7:15, and you'll need to use the entrance on Church Street.
Manholes, they refuse to be tamed!
