Friday Happenings
Importance of Being Ironic
-- It's the closing days of the Publick Theatre's production of Travesties, Tom Stoppard's satire of Oscar Wilde that manages to include Lenin, James Joyce, and Dadaist Tristan Tzara. Boston Center for the Arts Plaza, 539 Tremont St., 7:30pm (closing Saturday). $22-$35.
Unlikely Hipsters
-- An inspired double-feature sees Sean Connery's Bond paired with Peter Sellers's Clouseau. Neither character is especially smooth, but they both get a lot of play. Dr. No screens in the middle slot, Pink Panther screens twice. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge. More details.
Unseasonable Music
-- It is spring in Boston, but it probably feels like winter in Jamaica. We can only imagine that the participants in Boston's Spring Reggaefest are taking a May tour of less temperate climes. Western Front, 343 Western Ave., Cambridge, 10:00pm (also Saturday). $15.
-- Samba Tremeterra brings Brazilian Carnival to JP. The group, which specializes in samba drumming and sexy dancers, might very well screw up your bowling rhythm. Milky Way, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9:00pm. $10.
