Saturday Happenings
Open Studios
-- Few spring events are as hotly anticipated by gadabouts as the Somerville Open Studios. If you have ever needed an excuse to prod every nook of Somerville's cranny, free art and free wine should suffice. Somerville-wide, noon-6:00pm. Free. More information.
Waking the Earth
-- If you live in the southwestern reaches of Boston and are Red Line averse, Jamaica Plain's 29th annual Wake Up the Earth Festival might be more your speed. Featuring a parade, a gathering at Southwest Corridor Park, and hippie stuff. An after party will be held at Spontaneous Celebrations. Southwest Corridor Park (near Stony Brook T station), Jamaica Plain, noon-5pm. Free. More information.
Things to Get Your Mother if She is Bostonist
-- We have no idea what our own mother would do with 80% cacao chocolate and letterpressed greeting cards (wonder why we didn't get her Russell Stover and Hallmark?), but your mater may vary. Taza Chocolate, the only company in the United States that stone grinds its own chocolate, is having an open house just in time for Mothers' Day. Albertine Press will also be selling stuff. Taza Chocolate, 561 Windsor St., B-206, Somerville, 1:00pm-6:00pm. Free.
Poetry + Jazz
-- Former U.S. poet laureate Roberty Pinksy will perform for only the second time in a jazz setting, joining Bob Moses and a shifting spectrum of jazz performers for the benefit "A Kaleidoscopic View of Jazz in Boston," part of Jazz Week. Berklee Performance Center, 136 Mass. Ave., 8:00pm. $15/$10.
1990s Hangovers
-- Tribute bands rarely get more ironic than Backseat Lover and Angry Chair, respectively, a Pearl Jam and Alice and Chains cover band. They do battle at Monsters of Mock IV. Middle East Upstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 9:00pm. $12/$15.
