Sports Redux: The Birds Strike Again

Somewhere on Yawkey Way there’s a red tailed hawk giggling at the Celtics.
For those of you who missed it, the Celtics lost (again) in Atlanta, 103-100. Do you really want to make history for being the 4th top seed team to get the boot by an 8th seeed team ever? Do you really want to see Motor Mouth Mike Bibby flapping his gums about how they beat the Celtics? Do you really want to see Josh Childress’s poor man’s afro flopping around while they’re chasing after the Cavs? No, you don’t.
Is it possible for the Celtics to stop the shenanigans and win this series? Can they just play the same basketball that made you win home court advantage or are they just pissing away a season of hard work? Because really, that’s what it seems like.
We can’t blame Paul Pierce for fouling out last night, but hopefully it will inspire him and the rest of the team Sunday night at the Garden. Game 7 in a series doesn’t always go Boston’s way. Just ask the Bruins. But let’s hope the luck of the Sox rubs off on the Celts and we can take on King James Tuesday night.
The Red Sox finally played last night after the 2 hour and change delay and beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 7 – 3. Clay Buchholz pitched 5 1/3 innings and got the win last night.
But it was the offense that did most of the work last night getting 13 hits off of Ray’s pitcher, Edwin Jackson. The Sox scored more last night than they have all week. And the five runs in the fourth did the most damage. Brandon Moss started the inning off with a solo home run and singles followed that by Varitek, Ellsbury, Pedoria and Ortiz.
TONIGHT: Second game of the home series against the Rays starts at 7:05 with Beckett going against James Shields.
