Boston Blotter: Scion and Meetup Organizer Sentenced for Brutalizing Girlfriend
-- Christopher Gardner Beaman, a descendant of Henry Cabot Lodge and a prolific organizer on Meetup.com, was sentenced last week for the brutal assault of his girlfriend. The victim, a 30-year-old Cambridge woman, described the crime as a culmination of the pattern of violence that marred their relationship.
Beaman's assault left the victim hospitalized, in a wheelchair, with a lacerated liver last October.
Beaman, 24, has a troubled history and a long rap sheet. His mother, Dr. Roseanna H. Means, once took out a restraining order against him after he allegedly pushed her down a flight of stairs. His lawyers say he suffers from "intermittent explosive disorder," which causes him to fly into fits of unprovoked rage. Clinicians at Bridgewater State Hospital diagnosed him with anti-social personality disorder.
He is a man with a Janus face. Others know Beaman as an active organizer, who has started Meetup groups dedicated to flag football, Ultimate Frisbee, and political documentaries. In January, he was named Meetup organizer of the week. (Bostonist once joined one of his groups.)
Beaman was sentenced to one year in prison, with 100 days time served. He will serve a three year probation upon his release. [Herald]
