Bostonist is pleased to report the first solid evidence that the New Kids on the Block reunion is not some elaborate, Ashton-Kutcher-masterminded prank. Their first single, Summertime, is now online for your listening pleasure. As the station IDs repeatedly interrupting the song remind us, it's available via streaming audio at the website for On Air with Ryan Seacrest.
We are also pleased to report that the song is totally inoffensive. It's not original in any way--even the title has been used by everyone from George Gershwin to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince--but the melody is hummable, and we found ourselves bobbing our head along with the beat. It's nice to hear that Jordan can still rock the falsetto, and, as usual, we have no idea what Jon or Danny are doing. We wouldn't have it any other way.
The song's plot is the classic summer tale: boy meets girl, boy compliments girl's outfit and probably gets to second base, boy and girl part as the days grow cold. No word on whether they later reunite at Rydell High.
Thanks to Steve Garfield's Off on A Tangent for all the NKOTB links a gal could ever want.
