Books
Bostonist assures you that you haven't seen anything until you've seen a Japanese tea ceremony. Not only will Ellis Avery discuss her novel, The Teahouse Fire, but she'll also lead a ceremony. Brookline Booksmith, 279 Harvard St., Brookline, 7:00 pm. Free. (CR)

Music
"Everything I do, I do it for Bryan Adams." That's this fan's motto, apparently--his head is a tribute to Adam's new album, 11. Paradise Rock Club, 969 Commonwealth Ave, 7:00pm. (KS)

Multimedia Fanciness
Avian Music, a New York-based ensemble, repackages new music with video art to make it accessible to a broader public. They are in the middle of a mini-tour of the Northeast and will perform works by NEC composition chair Michael Gandolfi, Andreia Pinto Correia, Neil Rolnick, NEC Electronic Music Studio director John Mallia and others. Watch for the cyclophone, Peter Flint's bicycle-based percussion instrument. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 290 Huntington Ave., 8:00pm. Free.

Gin and Hors D'oeuvres for Orphans
A BBC psychological survey said gin drinkers have "accepted the reality of their own existence. They are into relationships, novels with happy endings, and saving the whale." Patrick Sullivan of the B-Side Lounge called them geniuses and forward-thinkers in Stuff@Night. New Amsterdam gin cocktails will flow while pizza, etc. will abound for the price of a donation to the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange. Croma, 269 Newbury St, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. $20 suggested donation. (RV)
