Books

--Alexsandar Hemon will read from The Lazarus Project, his historical novel set in early twentieth century Chicago. Read our interview with Hemon. Porter Square Books, 25 White St., Cambridge, 7:00 pm. Free.

Sadness Concentrated

--If you are walking down Comm. Ave. and smell clove cigarettes and despair, don't panic. The Cure is in town. Agganis Arena, Boston University, 925 Comm. Ave., 7:30pm. $38.50-$63.50.

Movies

-- The first of the big-budget superhero flicks, Superman: The Movie (1978) succeeds almost despite itself. Drastically over budget and the victim of a thousand re-writes (and a sleepwalking Marlon Brando), the film was propped by Christopher Reeves's charisma and Gene Hackman's talent. Tonight, MIT professor Max Tagmark explains the science of the movie, such as it is. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline, 7:00pm. $9/$7.

-- The HFA continues its series on May '68 filmmaking with Tout va bien (1972), Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin's dissection of phony radicalism, starring Jane Fonda. In a double-feature with the beguiling One Parallel Movie (1972). Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7:00pm. $8/$6.

Wine, Dim Sum

-- The wine magazine The Second Glass hosts a sake and wine tasting. (Bostonist has visited a Second Glass tasting before and can attest to its awesomeness.) RSVP at The Second Glass website. $2 Dim Sum plates will be available. Pho Republique, 1415 Washington St., 5:30-7:30pm. Free with RSVP.

Beer

-- Establishing American Craft Beer Week a couple years ago, House Resolution 753, affirmed that whereas, "American craft brewers strive to educate legal drinking-age Americans about the differences in beer flavor, aroma, color, alcohol content, body, and other complex variables, as well as historic brewing traditions, beer history, and gastronomic qualities of beer." Bostonians will have abundant opportunities to be educated this week. Bostonist will begin edifying ourselves at Cambridge Common, where they'll be tapping such favorites as Sixpoint Bengali and Bear Republic Racer 5 and such rarities as Rogue Ten Thousand Brew Ale.
