Focus On: Best Music Poll 2008

This past Saturday WFNX and The Boston Phoenix hosted the 2008 Best Music Poll concert featuring Death Cab for Cutie, The Presidents of the United States of America, Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls, Bob Mould, and Eli "Paperboy" Reed.

The show proved to be an energetic mix of musical styles and genres that brought a wide cross section of fans to the Bank of America Pavilion. While Death Cab for Cutie, touring in support of their new album "Narrow Stairs," was definitely the biggest draw, some of the other acts provided the show-stoppers of the evening. Amanda Palmer's voice soared on her acoustic, and ukelele accompanied, cover of Radiohead's "Creep," while the Presidents of the United States of America clearly had a blast as they engaged the crowd with a mix of their off-beat new and old songs. Death Cab started their set with "Bixby Canyon Bridge," the first track off their new album, and while they played many new songs they offered a diverse set with a surprising and impressive vibrancy that enhanced their often melancholy sound. The show wrapped up with Death Cab playing some of their biggest hits from "Plans" and "Transatlanticism" for the appreciative crowd.

Thanks to our friends The Sandbox for all the great access, check out their show mornings on WFNX.
