Representing on Reality TV: Sweater Vest No More

032308-sweater-vest-tommy.JPGBeauty and the Geek: The season finished off in such a way that, alas, made us miss last season. In the past, the beauties and geeks visited each other's hometowns, and they got to see their partners in their native habitat. David took his beauty, Jasmine, LARPing in the Public Garden, while Nicole showed off her singing skills to Sam in Somerville.

Instead, the producers went for some cheap drama by bringing back all the past contestants for a reunion. Amber, the beauty who did who-knows-what to Sweater Vest Tommy in the mansion broom closet, returned, and she pulled Sweater Vest Tommy's strings for all she was worth. She played jealous that Tommy scored a back rub from Tara in the hot tub. Then Tara got in a fight with other beauties who were gossiping about the situation, and she said, "Tommy needs to go through a few Ambers before he's ready for me."

Poor Tommy was all in a quandry, which made his partner, Amanda, cry because he wasn't focused on the game. He was probably thinking that he could have gotten a lot more action in the house if he'd put his mind to it. This portion of the episode was more like Flavor of Love or Rock of Love than Beauty and the Geek. Bostonist half expected Amanda to shout at Amber, "You're not here for him!"

Meanwhile, his opponent, MIT Chris, is still as geeky as he always was. During the final challenge, a Midnight Madness-ish scavenger hunt that involved the final two couples tracking down various geeks and beauties in their native habitats, MIT Chris was exceedingly dismissive of his partner. He said that the show helped him communicate with people who weren't as smart as himself. (Note to viewers and readers: DO NOT say this in a job interview. Don't say it at any time, ever.)

Then again, maybe he wasn't all that good at working with his partner because MIT Chris and Cara lost, while Sweater Vest Tommy and Amanda took the prize by having more geeks and beauties in their limo. It remains to be seen if Sweater Vest Tommy accepted the dubious prize that was Amber.

So, how'd things work out for Fatima on America's Next Top Model? Find out after the jump.

America's Next Top Model: Let's Glad Game this one. Fatima was second runner-up, after helium-voiced runner-up Anya from Hawaii and plus-size-ish Whitney. Even though she lost, she was in the running for most improved. Consider the orangey, fuzzy hairstyle she had when she first showed up to Top Model Academy so long ago. NYMag had an interview with the final three--Fatima, runner-up Anya, and Whitney--and it appears that Fatima has dropped her weave for a natural short cut. Thankfully, she's steering clear of the hair dye.

Other aspects of Fatima have not changed, such as her inability to make nice. She said that Whitney didn't deserve to win "Top Model." To her credit, she didn't say that she should have won instead but that Whitney's win was more about "politics" and having the first plus-size-ish model, and she felt that Anya should have won.

A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila: Boxer Michelle finally got some Tila time this week. (Whether or not that is a good thing depends on what you think of A Shot at Love.) While in a "saloon" of sorts, Tila led Michelle to the back room and decided that she rather liked Boston women. Michelle responded enthusiastically, declaring "That ass is like dangling a steak in a dog's face!"

That is, in fact, one of the classiest statements made on the show so far, and Bostonist thinks Michelle might be a solid under-the-radar candidate for "winning" the show, whatever that means.
