Boston Blotter: Mission Hill Shooting Victim Identified
-- Police have identified the victim of yesterday's fatal shooting in Mission Hill. Rebecca Payne, 22, was an athletic training major Northeastern University student who was well-liked by her colleagues and an active member of the university. Payne was shot twice in her legs and once in her chest. Police have not ruled out the possibility that she knew her killer and have not released any further information about their investigation. Although witnesses claim to have heard gunshots early Tuesday morning, no emergency call was made, which distresses Bostonist. If you hear gunshots, you should call the police because it might save somebody's life. [Globe; Herald]
-- A Lowell man, 35-year-old Shawn Lessieur, was arrested in California in connection with the 1994 murder of Mark Jones, 21, of Lowell. [WBZTV]
-- Former Boston mob boss Vincent Ferrara was among a group of defendants who pleaded not guilty to gambling charges in Norfolk Superior Court yesterday. Ferrara, who was freed from prison in 2005 after a finding that he was a victim of prosecutorial misconduct, faces misdemeanor charges. [Globe; Herald]
-- A boy was stabbed this afternoon in Somerville's Foss Park. Police nabbed four juvenile suspects, and the victim was transported to Mass. General Hospital, where he is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. [Somerville Journal]
