Green Line Trains Crash in Newton

Update to the Update: After hours of attempting to remove her from the train, the operator of the car who was trapped, Terrese Edmonds, has died, according to the Globe, who spoke with her father.

Update:WBZ is reporting that one trolley rear-ended another. The operator of the rear-ended train is trapped inside and has "very serious" injuries.

Same ugliness on the MBTA, just different lines. If you are riding the Green Line tonight, expect a long ride home.

Two Green Line D trains crashed on Dorset Road near the Woodland stop near the end of the line at about 6:00 pm, and the results are scary. Injuries have been reported, and two people were taken by Medflight to the hospital. Reports said that one person was trapped by a car, and police requested the Jaws of Life. One commuter told WCVB that his trolley was rear-ended.

Judging from the video of the scene, the front of one of the trains appears completely concave. Both trains are smoking.

The latest T alert reads: "Green Line is being diverted due to an accident near Waban. Shuttle bus service is running between Newton Highlands and Riverside. 5/28/2008 6:08 PM"

This is almost too much to take after the fire that threw yesterday's commute on the fritz. Were you there? Has your commute been disrupted?

That poor woman. That is awful news.

fire tuesday, crash wednesday... i'm afraid for the commute home tonight. :(

Or for the commute *in* this morning: police action in the Park/Boylston region delayed me and most people I work with. I was lucky to be stuck in a station, not between in the tunnels, and I just got off and walked through the common and the park to my bldg on Boylston.
