Saturday Happenings

shaw_intimate.jpgHippie Christmas

-- It's moving weekend (note the lack of stuff to do tonight), which means that it is time for all of the free furniture to appear. Cruise around the college campuses and the student-y areas and furnish your apartment for free. If you hit the right places around Harvard, Design might finally come Within Reach. Craigslist might give you a leg up on the competition.

Movies

-- The Shaw Bros. Studio might be best known for its kung fu movies, but it's contribution to the lesbian-brothel-virgin-abduction genre should not be overlooked. Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan (1972), the prime example, screens with The Love Eternal (1963), an otherworldly opera. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7:00pm. $8/$6.

-- Big Story in a Small City (2007) is a buddy comedy about death, mistaken identity, and organized crime. It screens as part of the MFA's Armenian Film Festival. Remis Auditorium, Museum of Fine Arts, 7:45pm. $10/$8.

Dancing Hipsters, Dirty Water

-- Dancing on the Charles, a series of outdoor dance music throw downs, kicks off tonight. The list of DJs seems to be under wraps, but we get the idea that this will be a blockbuster. Rain or shine. Gerry's Landing, Elliot Bridge, Cambridge, 7:00pm. $10. Maps and more information.
