Sports Redux: Busted in Baltimore

One positive thing we can say about last night’s Sox game was that Manny hit his 502nd career homerun. The Sox imploded last night, losing to the Orioles 6 -3 at Camden Yards. If losing to the Orioles weren’t bad enough, it was also announced that David Ortiz will be placed in the disabled list with a torn wrist sheath.

Tim Wakefield left the game with a lead after pitching for 7 innings. He walked 4 and struck out 3. But it was the bullpen that was the source all of the Sox' problems: Hideki Okajima gave up 4 hits and 4 runs in 2/3rd of an innings work. Manny is already set on reaching 600 homeruns sooner rather than later. He hit number 502 off of Jeremy Guthrie in the 6th.

One can only assume that the Sox are happy that the Celtics will be the center of attention this week. Tonight the Sox send Justin Masterson back to the mound for his third start against the first place Devil Rays, and they’ve also recalled Brandon Moss, whom they sent down last month after having an emergency appendectomy.

We at the Bostonist would like to say good luck to a fixture of the Boston sports scene who will be bidding us adieu at the end of the month. Hazel Mae announced yesterday that she would be leaving NESN when her contract is up. No word on why the Sports Desk host has decided to leave, but we wish her good luck. She will be missed.

Finally, Big Brown will be going for the Triple Crown this weekend, but not without some controversy. The horse had to be checked out with with a hoof specialist to examine a crack in his hoof. Hopefully his trainer does what's best and we don't have another Eight Belles moment at The Belmont Stakes.

Hazel Mae is gone? NESN isn't going to look like itself anymore, especially now that Tina Cervasio is gone.

Surviving Grady is already freaking out. What next? The four horsemen of the apocalpyse will come riding through?
