Ice Cream Abounds at the 26th Annual Scooper Bowl
The 26th Annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl began today, offering Bostonians a slight reprieve from the heat with all-you-can-eat ice cream from 11 different creameries. The event runs today until 7pm, Wednesday from 11:30am to 8pm, and Thursday from 11:30am to 7pm, and adult tickets are only $8. All proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Bostonist sampled as many flavors as humanly possible to bring you our Best in Show:
Cold Stone Creamery's Shock-A-Cone - Sweet cream ice cream filled with chunks of sugar cone, chocolate chip cookie dough, and big chunks of chocolate. Because when it's this hot out, it's easier to have the cone all chopped up and in the dish... less of a mess that way.
Doriti Gelati's Mango Gelato - The texture isn't quite creamy enough to stand up to other gelati out there, but the mango flavor, with a hint of coconut, is quite refreshing and is a terrific palate cleanser.
Brigham's Xtreme Razberry - This is like raspberry chocolate chip ice cream on steroids - a raspberry base with a rich fudge swirl and tons of little chocolate-covered raspberry cups. It might be a little hard to order it with a straight face, but the fantastic flavor makes up for the embarrassment.
Ben & Jerry's One Cheesecake Brownie and Cake Batter - Ben & Jerry's has two winners on its hands here. They taste exactly like their names - the Cheesecake Brownie is a rich cheesecake ice cream with huge pieces of fudge-y brownie mixed in, while the Cake Batter, with a chocolate swirl, tastes like it should be eaten off the edges of a mixing bowl.

i finally made it out there today! i was a sucker for haagen-dazs' belgian chocolate chocolate. mmm. i heard good things about shock-a-cone too.
