Sports Redux: Harang’d out to dry

The last time the Red Sox were in Cincinnati, they were playing the Reds in the 1975 World Series. That didn’t end in our favor, and neither did last night’s game when the Sox lost to the Red 3-1.

It probably wasn't the homecoming Justin Masterson was expecting. He gave up 3 runs in 6.2 innings of work, walking 3 and striking out 9. Two of the runs last night were home runs given to Jay Bruce in the first and Adam Dunn in the fourth.

Aaron Harang, who was a 16 game winner last year, raised his record to 3-9 after last night’s win. He threw for 7 innings, giving up one run, walking no one and striking out 7. Three of those strike outs belonged to JD Drew. Manny Ramirez came out in the 9th with a sore hamstring and was replaced by Coco Crisp. The game could have been worse. Look at what happened last night during the A’s/Giants game in the bottom of the ninth with two outs.

Red Sox President and CEO, Larry Lucchino released a statement last night after the passing of baseball and Red Sox fan Tim Russert was announced. If you recall, Tim moderated the Red Sox Nation Presidential debate. Tim Wakefield gets the call tonight against Edinson Volquez and it’s another night off for the Celtics, who are leading the NBA Finals 3-1.
