Anonymous, the group of internet pranksters and hackers that has become a common sight in major North American cities, launched its latest protest against the Church of Scientology on Sunday in Boston. The event was Operation Sea Arrrgh, a protest against Scientology's elite Sea Organization, which Anonymous characterized as a "private navy."
Huddled together in their Guy Fawkes masks -- courtesy of the movie V for Vendetta -- Anonymous members are easy to spot. They come from internet message boards such as 4chan and Encyclopedia Dramatica, which are better known for their lewd images and nerdy pranks than their social activism. But, since February 10, 2008, members of Anonymous have taken to the streets, protesting the Church of Scientology in a series of high-profile actions.
Anonymous has a laundry list of complaints against the church, but the protests began in January, when Scientology fought to remove a video in which Tom Cruise extols the virtues of the church from YouTube and other websites, an act which Anonymous regards as censorship.
The masks and anonymous nature of the protests, which Anonymous claims are necessary to protect members from the notoriously litigious Church of Scientology, make the group seem a little creepy. In fact, the Church of Scientology has called Anonymous "terrorists" who "persecute religion." But, what Bostonist found, on an overcast Boston afternoon, was a friendly group of misfit pranksters, more ROFLCon than Weather Underground.
Operation Sea Arrrgh was a multi-city protest. Most Anonymous groups, like the one in LA, held the protest on Saturday. Boston's event was pushed back to Sunday, in deference to the Boston Pride Parade. The later date gave out-of-towners like Philadelphian Aleicia Phulwani the chance to protest twice this weekend. (C. Sports Redux: One Goal, And One Goal Only

Pranksters and partygoers. Even so nobody cares. LA crew a handful. Clearwater a few. Boston obviously maybe 10? They need a new party mantra. Maybe the upcoming Presidential election?
We Care. Thats why we are going to keep coming back till criminal charges are brought against the leaders of $cientology. Maybe you should informed yourself on whats going on. Check out www.Xenu.net. You sound like a $cientologist.SCARED or something. What are your crimes? We are mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and others who really care... unlike you Furry..EXPECT US
anonymous can't be all bad if its members like puppies.
@anonmemphian. You are perverts actually, your main website has links to child porn and drug use. Your protests have died out and you can keep doing them all you want. Yawn. Get a life and do something constructive will ya.
If you want to see the protests in over 80 other cities all over the globe, visit http://tenyaka.googlepages.com/june14.html
@tenyaka. 12 people in Boston. 10 in SFO. About 30 in Clearwater. Small handful in LA. Hell, I could rouse my buddies to do better than that. The reason your movement is failing is because it's stepped in lies and propaganda and guess what. Nobody is listening anymore, with the except of the midnight strollers on your own blogs.
Chewyandbert,
You sure seem to pay a lot of attention to all the protest for someone who supposed to have a "life".
Don't worry furry.. when you wake up from that stupor your in we will be here for you.
www.xenu.net to get the facts.
Yes we love puppies and Longcats too!
that doesn't change the fact that your movement is failing based on numbers falling every month. You've got a long wait.
Funny, by the looks of these photos there were a lot more than 10 people there. By accounts of people that were there the peak was 75.

chewyandbert you sound like a nice scientologist, I hope you have gone to the doctors to have your lungs checked out. I'm figuring you were on the MV Freewinds at some point in time.
For anyone that doesn't know, the Freewinds in scientology's private ship. Unfortunately its completed chocked full of blue asbestos - the really nasty kind. What's really sad is Scientology's senior management has known about this since 1987 and still has been sending their followers out on this boat. What's really really sad is that if you are a high level scientologist it was the ONLY place you could continue your studies.

Oh and chewyandbert I see you forgot to mention some of the other protest sites around the world. Like London where there well over 300 people......

I'd take them a lot more seriously if they didn't base their protest on the underwhelming ending to a pretentious, mediocre popcorn flick.
yuppiescum, question:
Do you have to take Anonymous serious to understand what they are protesting?
"An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim."
A typical Church of Scientology tactic is using the "Ad hominem argument" to discredit negative facts about their organization by attacking the PEOPLE giving them the negative facts.
Nevermind about Anonymous, what we do, how we do it, how many people are doing it or how silly we may or may not look to you while we do it. Have you received our message about WHY we're protesting? Are you HEARING us? Have you learned about some subversive things this so called "Church" is doing under your nose and in your city?
Because that's most important. If not, get back to me when you've done a little research.
Thanks for the coverage, Bostonist.
Chewyandbert you're lying about attendance at the protests. I'm in CA and was at the SFO protest and there were at least 150 people. The cult's policy of lying is one of the reasons I picket. The other is I am an ex-member and have seen families broken apart by your "church". If you're not a liar, care to comment on the core belief of scientology that our problems stem from all of us being covered in the souls of invisible aliens? Never heard of it I'll bet. Go to Xenu.net and read it for yourself in L. Ron Hubbard's own handwriting. Chewyandbert I hope you are not gay because your leader wrote that such people should be taken from society as rapidly as possible and uniformly institutionalized. The reason Scientology is doomed, is because for the 1st time people can go online and research all the things your "church" has done, and believes. Hard proof. No more bait and switch. Lies won't work anymore. Take a look for yourself. Oh yeah you aren't allowed. (True) Go ahead, tell me you're free to look at the web sites that tell both sides of the scientology claims.
