Be a Deejay for a Day

Pompadour and More PromOld School Prom
Saturday, July 26th (8:00pm - midnight)
Belcourt Castle (Newport, RI)
$75 in advance; $100 at the door (proceeds benefit I Need a Hero Fund and the Royal Arts Foundation)

Have you always envied prom deejays: greasy hair, stacks of records, awful outfits, the chance to drink spiked punch and hang with high schoolers? Well, now's your chance to become a deejay at prom, finally achieving your lifelong dream. Old School Prom is hosting a deejay contest for its upcoming event. The winner gets a free ticket to the party, plus (of course) the chance to rock the house all night long (using a laptop, not turntables).

To enter, simply submit a sample list of 10 songs you think would be most likely to get folks out on the dance floor. Sounds like an easy task, but it all depends on who you think the target audience is, and what they'd like to hear. An OSP chairman notes, “Half the prom committee grew up bouncing to the beats of Sir Mix-a-Lot and Young MC, and half the committee grew up sulking to the Smiths." Can you bust a move and panic on the streets of London in the same playlist? Do what you dare, and see if you win.

If you're in the mood for more prom fun, check Jezebel's prom photo gallery of user-submitted prom atrocities. Some aren't so bad, but most are... uh, well, not quite pretty in pink.

Thanks Bostonist for showing our little party some love. It's a great time and we'll send photos to prove it.
