Oddblotter: Saying Goodbye to Good Time

goodtimeemporium.jpg

The Good Time Emporium, which closed its doors for good this weekend, holds a hallowed place in the Boston Blotter hall-of fame. (This Bostonist will never forget the time that 200 patrons remembered the "reason for the season" with an impromptu Easter Sunday melee.) Were you expecting everybody's favorite go-cart/laser tag/assault and battery locale to close with a classy bow or curtsy? Good Time was not going out like that.

Friday night, two drunkards refused to let the Good Time end after being asked to leave the facility by employees, according to police. Michael Vaughan, 24, the pride of Hanson, MA, went so far as to call a member of the Good Time staff a "Nazi," invoking a variant of Godwin's law for what may have been the last time at the funplex.

When police arrived, Vaughan continued his belligerence, referring to officers as "dudes." After a discussion with Vaughan's friend, police persuaded the man to leave the emporium. But, in a last ditch effort to link his legacy with that of his favorite arcade game venue and crime scene, Vaughan allegedly tried to invade Good Time.

"Dude," Vaughan allegedly told police, "I’m coming in. What are you going to do? Do you know who I am? I’m from Pembroke, Massachusetts."

Vaughan and his 22-year-old friend were charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Vaughan was also charged with trespassing.

And so the cover closes on a legend.
