Movies
-- Rancho Notorious (originally "The Legend of Chuck-a-Luck") has the best title of any of Fritz Lang's westerns, and critics consider the 1952 film to be his best addition to the genre. Starring Marlene Dietrich as, well, the notorious proprietor of the Chuck-a-Luck ranch. Screening with Madigan (1968), Don Siegel's groundbreaking police procedural. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7:00pm. $8/$6.
-- If you have a hankering for imperialism and four spare hours, the Coolidge screens David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia. We prefer Peter O'Toole in comic roles, personally, but Omar Sharif and Anthony Quinn make up for it. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline, 7:00pm. $9/$6.
Hip-Hop
-- X-Clan took fewer shorts than most in the early 90s, offering an uncompromising black nationalism filtered through Nation of Islam orthodoxy. Surviving member Brother J has made the message more ecumenical, emphasizing racial harmony, for instance, but has not lost his skills on the mic. Joined by Foundation Movement and Michael "Warrior" Bonds. Church of Boston, 69 Kilmarnock St., 8:00pm. $8/$10.
