-- ICA's Talking Taste brings Boston's chefs to the South Boston waterfront to talk about their trade. Acclaimed chef Jody Adams of Rialto restaurant takes the dais tonight to discuss her approach to regional Italian cuisine. Institute of Contemporary Art, South Boston, 6:30pm. Trunk Sales

Bias Design, a screenprinting shop in JP, hosts a trunk sale to clear out its warehouse for Fall. Expect everything from ironic slogans to prints of flower silhouettes. Essential hipster streetware at big discounts. Building C, Brewery Complex, 30 Germania St., Jamaica Plain, 5:30pm-9:30pm. Free.

Openings

-- SURFACE brings together the works of four artists, Sylvie Agudelo, Jane Deutsch, Mike Hammecker and Ron MacGeorge, whose work deals with surfaces and barriers. Fort Point Arts Community Gallery, 300 Summer St., South Boston, 5:30pm-9:30pm (through August 1). Free.

-- The Midway Show is the annual exhibition of work from MassArt MFA students who are halfway through their program. (And it is not held at the Midway Cafe.) Media includes sculpture, painting, photography, digital art, and installations. Don't miss Joey Tipton's inflatable depiction of an oil tanker, 20 feet tall. Stephen D. Paine Gallery, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, 621 Huntington Ave., 6:00pm-9:00pm. Free.

Japanese Psych Rock

-- Boris plays heavy music influenced by a bevy of bands. Bostonist likes the influences, which include Melvins, Venom, Sleep, Nick Drake, and Count Five, but we're not sure we want to hear them all at the same time. The kids disagree. Middle East Downstairs, 472 Mass Ave., Cambridge, 8:00pm. $15.

New Orleans Jazz

Rebirth Brass Band has been revitalizing New Orleans jazz and funk since 1982. Nine musicians strong these days, to find a funkier show from New Orleans you'd have to find guys named Toussaint. Harper's Ferry, 158 Brighton Ave., Allston, 8:00pm. $20.
