Sports Redux: Baltimore Beats Buchholz
Baltimore and Clay Buchholz have a bit of a past, but last night it was point Baltimore. Well, 7 points for them when they beat the Sox 7–3. It probably wasn’t the comeback performance we expected from Clay Buchholz after spending two successful months in AAA.
Buchholz threw for five innings last night and gave up 4 runs, 5 walks and struck out 6. Javier Lopez and David Aardsma each threw scoreless innings, followed up by Manny Delcarmen, who gave up 2 runs in one inning of work. Mike Timlin was tagged for 1 run in the 9th.
The Sox might be without Julio Lugo, who went down with a quad injury last night when he was trying to beat out a grounder in the 9th. If Lugo is out for a while, the Sox could bring up Jed Lowrie from Pawtucket to fill the void. Dustin Pedroia went 0-3 and ended his 17 game hitting streak.
Hopefully this weekend Jonathan Papelbon can record his 100th career save, but before that happens, the Red Sox send Tim Wakefield to the mound tonight.
