Wednesday Happenings
Benefits
-- Boston jazz mainstay Either/Orchestra returned from its last European tour a man down. Longtime percussionist Vicente Lebron had been detained by Homeland Security. The Dominican native has lived in the United States for the past 38 years, collecting a wife, children, grandchildren, and a livelihood. Few details have emerged regarding his status, and he remains imprisoned at the South Bay Correctional Center. An impressive array of Boston musicians host a benefit tonight to defray his legal costs. 12 acts perform, including Orchestra Morphine, Charlie Kohlhase’s Explorer’s Club, Club d’Elf, and "a large, horn-heavy Jazz-latin-ethiopian ensemble with guest singers." Ryles Jazz Club, 212 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8:00pm-1:00am. $10.
Movies
-- Gender Redesigner (2007) follows a rural Pennsylvania woman as she becomes a man. From breast removal surgery to drag kinging, hormone therapy to identity swapping, it's a look at a process that is foreign to many of us but which is becoming all the more common. fAe Gibson, subject of the film, will answer questions after the screening. Part of the CineMental series, presented by Truth Serum. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 9:30pm. $10.
Intergalatic Adventure
-- Gary Panter and Dr. Revolt have collaborated on a graphic novel, The Lost Ones. They will sign the novel today from 4-6pm. Bodega, 6 Clearway Street. (KS)
