Q: The Winged Serpent (1982) is easily the best movie about an Aztec god (Quetzalcoatl) rampaging through New York City starring David Carradine. The stop-motion rubber serpent is enough to make the most tech-positive film geek long for old fashioned, artisanal special effects. Law & Order's Michael Moriarty makes a fantastic villain: a dweeb on the make, and Carradine lends his patented wry ultraviolence to the proceedings. It's a gem, directed by cult favorite Larry Cohen.
Q screens with Night of the Comet (1984) tomorrow night at the Harvard Film Archive. The double-feature is part of Conservators' Choice, a film series curated by the HFA's conservators. Tomorrow's pairing was the brainchild of conservator Liz Coffey, whom Bostonist interviewed last week. Listen to the podcast to learn about daily life in a world-class film archive and to find out why you absolutely must see tomorrow night's double feature.
