MannyWatch: Deal Dead, Pterodactyls in Holding Pattern

It looks like the Manny Ramirez trade is dead. The latest news has the deal stalled over the Pirates' concerns that they were the pegboy of the Pittsburgh Three-Way. And Bostonist can't help but agree with them. The deal has the Pirates trading away an All-Star caliber left fielder with a monster on base percentage for a bag of magic beans. Insiders also claim that some in the Red Sox front office weren't really down with the deal anyway. But, with all this acrimony and hype, can everything just go back to normal? Surely, that is not how baseball is played.

Let it be time-stamped --

I still think a deal will get done today.

with half an hour left, i'll reiterate my doubt. ESPN now says the Bay-Rays trade might be back on.

Let's keep in mind this was only the "non-waivers" trade deadline...

It'd be real interesting to see the Sox go on like a six-game tear right now and carefully observe the backpedaling patterns of Red Sox Nation.

I know a few Antimannyites who won't budge, but a couple timely home runs and there will be a lot of people who conveniently forget that they were carrying pitchforks and torches all last week.

MLB.com, SI.com and FoxSports.com are reporting that Manny has been traded to the Dodgers.

Noooo! He flew away on a flock of pterodactyls! They say that if you love a bird, let it fly away, and it will come back to you. But what happens if the bird wants a few million before it promises to come home?
