Bostonist Style: Slave To Fashion Footwear

sandal ankle bootie We’re in the final stretch of the summer, so enjoy it while it lasts. But if you’re looking for footwear that will transition from the hot summer to the crisp cool air of the fall, have we got a shoe for you. Its ridiculous looking and we’d never wear them, but it’s a shoe never the less. May we please introduce you to the sandal ankle bootie by Maison Martin Margiela.

When we first saw them on the feet of Rachel Bilson, we assumed the poor lass had fallen on hard times and couldn't afford sandals, so she tore apart some booties or she had fallen and hurt herself and was wearing some sort of cast. That wasn't the case. We’re not dumb – chances are she was probably paid to wear them, but if you or I wanted a pair for some weird reason, we'd have to shell out 600 dollars for them. After thinking about it long and hard, we don’t know anyone who would actually wear them - let alone spend $600 on them. We showed the shoes to one of our friends, who bless her heart, is a slave to most fashion trends and it took her awhile to come up for an excuse for them.

“Well, dancers wear leg warmers over their heels? So this isn’t that far off, right?”
“But don’t leg warmers serve a purpose? This is just some random piece of leather. So question of the day, would you wear them?”
“Oh God No! Have you seen my calves? I could never wear them!”

What if you have cankles and your legs swell up sometimes? Oh that’s going to look REALLY attractive. Please, let’s draw attention to one of the worst part of our bodies while we hobble around on 4 inch heels. But then again, these shoes aren’t made for the every day gal. We’ll stick to our ballet flats and flip flops, thank you very much!

Next week: Olympic Fashions!
