Live Review: Sera Cahoone
Sera Cahoone played the Paradise this past Wednesday night and provided some country balance to headliner Matt Costa's indie pop sound. Sera may be better known for her stint as drummer for the Band of Horses, but in the past few years she has dedicated herself to exploring her folk country roots. Sera Cahoone's beautiful voice gives life to her simple arrangements and it is the depth of her vocal talent that set her songs apart. There is a heaviness to her lyrics that belie her delicate and airy voice. On Only as the Day is Long, Sera sings:
"All my insecurities are breakin me up inside You light another cigarette and my eyes are on fireLightning strikes me only in waves
And I know I’m safe for now
But I know the rest is on it’s way"
Backed up by both steel and slide guitars, Sera's music has a pleasant and comforting sound that serves to transport the listener to a warm Sunday afternoon on the porch, taking a break from the trials of life to simply sit and enjoy the breeze.
