Strictly Business
-- Mayor Menino says, "Old school Hip Hop contains a strong positive message and it is our objective to deliver this message to our community," and so Long Islanders EPMD headline the mayor's Peace 2008 Hip Hop festival. It would be quibbling to point out that the duo, which got its start in 1986, is hardly "old school," and Bostonist is skeptical that any art, let alone hip hop, can lead to peace. Nonetheless, we're psyched to see the masters of the slow flow for free, uncleared Marva Whitney samples and all. Playing Jerry Lewis to EPMD's laid-back Dean Martin will be Das EFX, who gave the early 90s all its extra syllables. Also performing are Chubb Rock and locals Acrobatik, Status Quo, Esoteric, and dance troupe Static Noyze. City Hall Plaza, Government Center, 4:00pm-8:00pm. Free.
B-Movies
-- The final installment of the HFA's Conservator's Choice film series takes you back to 1957, when nothing was more terrifying then the re-animated head of Nostradamus. The Man Without a Body finds the 16th century prophet still teaching lessons about hubris to those who would use the powers of clairvoyance for evil, rather than good. Screening with Bert I. Gordan's ("Mr. B.I.G.") cult monster flick The Cyclops. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7:00pm. $6/$8.
Shakespeare Invasions
-- If catching As You Like It on the Common did not satisfy your urges, more Shakespeare is on offer this weekend. Shakespeare in the Square features a performance of Love's Labour's Lost, a "Shakespeare Slam," which sounds complicated beyond Bostonist's attention span, and a performance by throw-back outfit the Renaissonics. Winthrop Park, Harvard Square, Cambridge. 2:45pm. Free.
Music
-- Massachusetts based band State Radioheadlines the Pavilion tonight with support from indie soul rockers and Berklee School of Music alums Apollo Sunshine. Bank of America Pavilion, 290 Northern Ave South Boston. 7:30pm, $20 - $25. (KLC)
