Sports Redux: Royal Pain In The Buch

redsoxlogo.JPGDear Clay Buchholz,
We don’t know what’s going on. We don’t know why you keep losing. But feel free to stop whenever you feel like it. We’re not asking for you to throw a no hitter all of the time. But this whole losing thing you’ve got yourself into, it’s not working for us; especially when we’re three games behind the Devil Rays. Thanks for listening.

After winning three at home, the Sox dropped one to the Kansas City Royals last night, 4-3. Buchholz is now 0-5 with an ERA of 8.07 after his last seven games. The wheels feel off last night in the third, when three runs scored off of three hits. The Sox came close to tying the game up in the ninth, but Sean Casey hit a pop fly out to right field and Mark Teahen was able to make the easy out.

Third baseman, Mike Lowell was out last night giving his right hip flexor a night off. Lowell had been playing through the pain all weekend and after a getting a shot from the team doctors, he is expected to join up with the team today. The Boston Herald is reporting David Ortiz might be having wrist problems again. We’ll refrain from freaking out just yet. The Sox send Josh Beckett to the mound tonight against Brian Bannister.

Elsewhere in the world of baseball, The Devil Rays lost last night; hopefully that’s the start of a new trend. The Yankees lost and might have lost Joba Chamberlain too. Joba was taken out in the fifth inning after injuring his shoulder. No word if he’ll be able to make his next start and this isn’t the news they want to hear, both Chein-Ming Wang and Phil Hughes are missing from their starting rotation. In the National League, the second place Brewers are having some internal issues. Prince Fielder went after pitcher, Manny Parra, after he was taken out of the game.

With the Olympics days away, the women of Team USA basketball beat Russia, 93-58. The Russian basketball team includes American, Becky Hammond. Hammond who wasn’t selected for the USA team, but became a Russian citizen to play for their national team, scored 10 points.

And finally, MVP of the 2008 NBA Finals, Paul Pierce was pulled over in Las Vegas for driving erratically. The Truth was upset over the traffic stop and was handcuffed until he calmed down. Pierce blew a .08, which was below the legal intoxication in the state of Nevada, but decided take a cab after the incident. No citation was issued.
