When Bostonist arrived at the Hendrick's-sponsored Beantown Bartender Battle last night, we found a table piled with gleaming cocktail shakers, cans of Barritt's ginger beer, copious bottles of gin, Pimm's No. 1, and our favorite saints, Germain and Elizabeth. And that was the tip of the iceberg.
Jeff Grdinich adorned his entry, the Boston Tea Party, with the most elaborate garnish of the night (or any other night), a slice of English toasting bread topped with cucumber and a compound butter containing the ingredients that flavor Hendrick's. The beverage itself mingled the obligatory gin with a chamomile rose petal tea, demerara syrup, lemon juice, and, "because it's Boston," Fernet Branca. ("I thought Fernet was a San Francisco thing?" "No, no, Boston kicks San Francisco's ass for Fernet Branca.") (C. Fernsebner)

ahhh! evan! i love him.
I've shamefully, inexplicably never been to the Independent. But I hear he makes some drink with Campari and rye and something; got to try that.
