Boston Blotter: 70 Netted in Immigration Gang Sweep

crime_scene_tape.jpg-- 70 people were arrested in Massachusetts this week by the US Immigration and Customs service, who claim they were targeting gang members. The suspects, who hail overwhelmingly from Latin American nations (with Vietnam, Cambodia, Portugal, and Jamaica thrown in for good measure) were picked up during raids in cities and towns throughout the state. 52 of those arrested are suspected of having ties to gangs. -- Dane Boesse, 54, of Brockton, stands accused of peddling child pornography on the internet. He allegedly offered pictures of sleeping girls and a videotape of a 12-year-old having sex with a man. [Globe]

-- Some heathen stole an allegedly ancient relic from the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. The relic, said to be a bone fragment from St. Andrew the Apostle, had been stored in a silver box. [WBZTV]

-- Donald Gibson, who allegedly slit his own throat after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a child, faces non-life-threatening injuries and a sentencing hearing. [WBZTV]

All charges alleged until proven under law.
