The Olympics start today, and the Chinese Government has shared some fashion tips with their fine citizens to make visitors to their country more comfortable. Considering such a fashion icon like a Bai Ling comes from China, they must know a thing or two when it comes to style.
Case in point: Did you know black shoes and white socks are out? We’re glad we weren’t caught participating in that fashion faux pas. Ladies, keep your rulers handy to make sure your skirts are at the proper lengths. For the record, they can be three to six centimeters above the knee, if you’re young--but must be three centimeters below the knee if you're older. The cougars of China are really forced to dress like schoolmarms.
Men are not allowed to wear pajamas in public, go without a shirt (sorry, Mathew McConaughey) or roll up their pant legs to beat the heat. If you’re a person of larger stature, the Chinese Government feels that horizontal stripes might not be for you. Sorry, Americans--and even many Chinese.
Our favorite rule is the following: “Clothes should not be too small; otherwise this makes people feel you are unreliable.” Can this rule apply to everyone EXCEPT Michael Phelps?
More Olympic fashion after the jump!
For those of your who are looking to show your Olympic pride and wear what Team USA will be wearing, just head on down to Ralph Lauren, Nike, and Puma. All three stores will be selling official Olympic merchandise. For those of you looking for something a little more high-end, Gucci and Prada have you covered.
Before we finish this piece and crash on the couch to watch international competition at its best, we would like to give out a gold medal for, by far, the most atrocious outfit worn to the Teen Choice Awards. Yes, we know, it’s "for kids"--but considering the most of people attending are our age and have stylists, they should know better. So, Lil Mama, even though we love your ode to lip gloss, come on up and get your award. We weren’t sure if it was possible to mix Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie with Paris Hilton and make it less classy than the latter. But you did it--congrats!
