TARDISes
-- Hooked on Who is a showcase of classic—and brand new— episodes of the British science fiction series Doctor Who. You don't have to know the difference between a police box and a phone booth to enjoy the episodes, but a level patience with primitive BBC filmmaking standards can't hurt. Tonight features one of the best known story arcs: "Genesis of the Daleks," starring Tom Baker (the one with the scarf). Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 10:00pm. Free, but reservations are required.
Samba
-- The ICA's You Dance Friday series continues with an installment about the Brazilian dance samba. Instruction from André Carvalho and Rosangela Santiago will prepare you to samba with the Brasilis quartet. Institute for Contemporary Art, South Boston, 6:00pm. Free.
Experimental Film
-- Electric Shadows features experimental film from a host of local filmmakers, both well-known and new to the scene. The evening was curated by Julie Madden and Autumn Ahn, who sifted through films made to fit a mysteriously unspecified theme. Axiom Gallery, 141 Green St., Jamaica Plain, 8:00pm. $7 donation.
Movies
-- Who doesn't like sexy Italians and campy spy movies? Modesty Blaise (1966), based loosely on the British comic strip, stars Monica Vitti (best known for her role in L'Avventura (1960)) as a smoking hot British spy sent to stop a diamond heist. Hilarity ensues. It's hard to say that any given Joseph Losey flick is a crowd-pleaser; here's the exception. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7:00pm. $8/$6.
