Movies
-- Who knew your Boston "staycation" could include a trip to Normandy? HFA presents a pair of films set in the French region that give the impression that, in northern France, the more things change the more they stay the same. I, Pierre Rivière... (1976) is the retelling of the story of Pierre Rivière, a man whose vicious triple murder was made famous in intellectual circles by Michel Foucault. Nicolas Philibert's Back to Normandy (2007) is a semi-autobiographical reflection on the making of that film. (Philibert served as assistant director on I, Pierre Rivière...) Both films strive to show the that the rhythm of life in Normandy have deep consonances with the region's past. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. $8/$6.
Sex & Drugs
-- Have you been to the Savant Project's Sex and Drugs trivia night? We hear that it's just like other trivia nights, except that it only covers two topics. Bostonist will be giving it a try tonight. Savant Project, 1625 Tremont St., Roxbury Crossing, 7:30 p.m. Free.
Post-Rock
-- Boston band Cul de Sac, which was mentioned in the 1994 article that coined the term "post-rock," has played with the likes of Can vocalist Damo Suzuki and guitar hero John Fahey. Sharing the stage tonight with Boy Without God and Generation RX. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
