Weird Music
-- Somerville record store Weirdo Records presents a showcase of the sorts of music it sells in its shop. Chicago one-woman band U.S. Girls makes bedroom tape recorder music that warbles and pounds in and out of harmony. The results are twisted and enchanting. Bostonist fave Baba Yaga is a two woman freaky folk act. Coughing Club and Milo Jones also perform. P.A.'s Lounge, 345 Somerville Ave., Somerville, 8:30 p.m. $7/$10.
Music
-- Want a little prog in your indie rock? It's usually a losing proposition, but L.A. act Bodies of Water channel the spirit (if not the chops) of Soft Machine into their slow and steady indie rock flow, with unaccountably good results. Shades of Barbara Manning. Performing with Port O'Brien and Emeen Z. Middle East Upstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $9.
Places to Get Down
-- GALAXY is the monthly funk/soul/R&B dance night brought to you by the folks who should know: the hosts of WMBR's Lost and Found radio show. Deep crates and moving bodies all night long. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
