We've been ready to write off Dane Cook for a long time (we're still bitter about those "There's Only One October" commercials last year). Arlington's finest most famous export has been raking in the cash and selling out (large venues, that is) with essentially the same comedy material and frat guy schtick for years, while his movies have been much less commercially or critically successful. Seriously, did anyone actually see Good Luck Chuck?
But who knew of Dane Cook, the artist? Cook unleashed a new side on Tuesday when he ripped apart the preview poster for the Boston-filmed My Best Friend's Girl, which we all knew during last year's filming as Bachelor No. 2. Apparently Cook doesn't like the poster now circulating, and we agree with him: it's an awkward, uninspired poster that features co-stars Kate Hudson and Jason Biggs smiling and looking stupid, respectively, while Cook looks like a tool, smirking from his spot between the pair.
We'll let you read the list of Cook's grievances (don't worry, by the way, he's as Dane Cook-ish as ever as he describes to what he takes offense). Sure, it's kind of lame to preemptively blame a poster for poor ticket sales down the line. And we're sure that this isn't exactly going to be groundbreaking cinema.
But we have to admit that we dig the manner in which he showers praise on co-star Alec Baldwin, and we like seeing an actor go out of his way to tell an audience that he's proud of a movie he's made and is psyched to share it.
Especially when those words aren't just being spoken during a press junket.

i hope one of the characters is named jessie.
God. Do I HATE Dane Cook. He's not funny. At. All.
I find him funny, guess I'm in the minority. His early comedy was especially good.
I don't think he's funny at all and don't plan to see his movies.
But since I've seen stories about his myspace rant about the poster in at least three blogs and a news outlet in the last 24 hours alone, I'd say he's pretty good at getting publicity for his films.
Dane Cook is the worse thing to ever happen to the comedy industry, and I say that knowing that acts such as Carrot Top and Joyce Behar still exist in this world. I never knew much about him, but then I *tried* to watch a bit of his stand up act, set in an arena filled with laughing fans. I just didn't get it. He wasn't funny. He strikes me as one of these "golden boys" I call them--those boys so loved and adored by their mommas growing up who teach them they're perfect, when, in fact, they're not. He's cute, I'll say that, but I wish he'd just be quiet. Maybe he would be funny mime.
