Sports Redux: Sox Win A Much More Reasonable Game Than Last Time

Were the folks at Fenway disappointed last night? 24 hours after the zany madcap roller coaster 19-17 win, the Red Sox came back and dispatched Texas in a much tidier fashion. They did it by riding a Kevin Youkilis hit parade and a (mostly) solid Jon Lester start to an 8-4 win.

Youk got three doubles, the big one coming in the third and scoring two runs to make it 4-0. Jason Bay and Jed Lowrie also contributed RBI doubles, and the Sox built an 8-0 lead by the end of the fifth. The Rangers didn't have a full-on comeback in them last night, but they did finally get to Lester in the eighth, as Les surrendered a home run to Ian Kinsler, and put two on for Mike Timlin, who promptly gave up a 3-run shot to Milton Bradley. Justin Masterson worked the ninth, though, and finished Texas off.

The Rays won, so we're still three back. The Yankees lost, the wailing and gnashing of teeth has begun, and we're happy.

Things are developing out in L.A., where rumor has it that Larry Lucchino may soon go out West to join Frank McCourt and his merry band of Fenway exiles. For his part, Manny's having a great time out there, reports the Onion.

Boston has a new Most Eligible Catcher - Jason Varitek is "vari" available after filing for divorce from his wife of eleven years, Karen. We don't know the details, or what kind of prenup was involved. Anyone wishing to court Jason should be prepared for Kevin Cash to take over for him every fifth day.

Brett Favre reports his arm is tired after one day of Jets camp. Possibly from lobbing all the bags of you know what at Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay management. The Madden curse? Anyway, Brett with a broken arm is still one of the top three QBs the Jets have had in the past 30 years. Also, apparently the Olympics are going on still, but we don't know if we're cleared by the Chinese government or NBC to tell you anything that's going on. So we're going to announce that Moldova's winning everything and let someone else prove us wrong.

In the United States, the truth of an assertion is an absolute defense against allegations of libel.

Ladies _and_ Gentlemen, perhaps you should also be reminded that Tek is, quite literally, a Switch Hitter. Too far?

Women should also know that Varitek occasionally favors Cosby sweaters.
