diy-emancipation.jpgFilm Festivals

-- The Bicycle Film Festival continues today with five screenings. Institute for Contemporary Art, South Boston. Tickets and showtimes.

Movies

-- The Brattle continues its Singalong Weekend with screenings of the Muppet Movie and Moulin Rouge. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge. Tickets and showtimes.

Enjoy the Silence

-- John Cage, the American composer famous for his use of silence and chance, composed a series of Variations, each of which relied on performers to follow instructions based on chance procedures. Electronic musician Tim Feeney and ensemble perform Variations III (1962). Presented by the Open Sound project. Third Life Studio, 33 Union Square, Somerville, 7:30 p.m.

Latin Dance

-- Mango's Latin Dance night, which claims to be Boston's oldest ongoing such event, happens every Saturday night, and tonight's no exception. Considering the weather we've been having, perhaps a bit of sympathetic magic on the dance floor might be in order to bring the tropical sun to Boston. Show up early if you need salsa lessons. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. $10/$5. Ladies free before 10:30 p.m.
